Tozzetti Café and Bakery is the result of owner Ben Carpenter’s experience and vision. In 2011, after his success with former venture, ‘Aikmans’ in Christchurch, When Ben first saw the bakery on Halifax Street, it had a reputation for fine artisan breads and baked goods. However, Ben (affectionately known as ‘the Wizard of Tozz’) had foresight and a vision. He saw potential for a fine eatery, while maintaining high quality baking. Tozzetti needed more room to expand into a café, and a dynamic front of house manager to breathe some energy and vitality into the operation. Fortunately, these problems were quickly resolved, respectively with the purchase of a site on Vanguard Street, and the arrival of local Carey (with her exquisite coffee skills) to the business. The site on Vanguard Street gave a great central location, being just on the edge of the city, yet giving lots of room to facilitate Ben’s vision of a joint café bakery.  

Fast forwarding through years of hard work and quiet transformation, Tozzetti is now a destination, providing a very reputable café service with a wide and varied menu, friendly staff, convenient location and great premises. Tozzetti serves a loyal and large clientele with a smile. Since 2011, Ben and Carey’s ambitious goals have paid off, and numbers have risen faster than the bread. Tozzetti prides itself on using ethically sourced RIPE coffee. It’s no surprise that their coffee is in hot demand! Boasting sourdough loaves that are second to none, and an extensive array of catering choices, Tozzetti is a vibrant, ambient café, also offering extensive catering options and a fantastic all-day menu for delicious sit down dining. Gaining recognition and collecting praise from many, including international visitors, the café is widely acclaimed. 

The future looks exciting for Tozzetti and the ability to change with customers desires will ensure it keeps its place as one of Nelson’s top cafés.
